The Best Cities for Snowbirds in 2025
By Samanda Dorger
Winter is finally wrapping up, and chances are you’ve had enough of it.
Sick of snow-blowing, slush in your boots and astronomical heating costs?
More than a million Americans and Canadians are too, and that’s why they spend winter months in warmer climates in the southern U.S.
So maybe it’s time to start planning for next winter.
To determine the best cities for snowbirds, personal finance site FinanceBuzz evaluated 180 different cities, mostly in the south, on their livability, affordability, temperature/climate, and culture and recreation.
The top 5 cities are all in Florida:
1. Sebring
2. Sebastian
3. The Villages
4. Homosassa Springs
5. Naples
Sebring, Fla., the number one city has a low violent crime rate, high walkability and a high population of residents over 60 (44.3%).
Sebring is the most affordable, with a cost of living that is 17% lower than the national average.
Next top five on the list are:
6. Brunswick, Ga.
7. Hot Springs, Ark.
8. Savannah, Ga.
9. Victoria, Texas
10. Punta Gorda, Fla.
Also in the top 25 were Myrtle Beach, S.C. (14th) New Orleans (19th), Kahului, Hawaii (24th) and Sarasota, Fla. (25th)
For the ranking, FinanceBuzz collected data on 180 cities, most of which are south of the 38th parallel north. Several cities north of that mark in more temperate states such as Virginia, California, and Nevada were also included. Data points on livability, affordability, culture and recreation, and temperature and climate were indexed on a 0-5 scale, then scored to create the ranking. See the full ranking here.
