Arun Muralidhar

Arun Muralidhar, Chairman and Founder of Mcube Investment Technologies LLC (www.mcubeit.com), has experience in and has written extensively on pension reform, asset allocation and currency management. He is also Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of AlphaEngine Global Investment Solutions (AEGIS), an SEC registered investment advisor, a subsidiary of Mcube. Both firms assist pension funds, foundations and sovereign funds in asset allocation, currency management and external manager oversight through customized investment advice and the award-winning AlphaEngine® technology. Arun Muralidhar is the author of (1) Innovations in Pension Fund Management, Stanford University Press, 2001 (translated into Japanese and Chinese); (2) A SMART Approach to Portfolio Management, Royal Fern Publishing, 2011; and (3) 50 States of Gray: An Innovative Solution to the Looming Defined Contribution Retirement Crisis, Investments and Wealth Institute, 2018. He is also co-author with the late Prof. Franco Modigliani on a book on reforming Social Security, titled, Rethinking Pension Reform, Cambridge University Press, 2004, and edited European Pension Reform, Luxembourg Institute of International Studies, 2007. Arun has won awards for his articles in the Financial Analyst Journal, Journal of Investment Consulting and the Journal of Performance Measurement. Mcube was voted the best tactical manager, CIO Magazine, best pension software provider by Global Pensions in 2008 and was nominated for the same award for 2010. Mcube has also been noted by Financial News in 2006 and was selected as one of the top 21 companies to influence the finance industry in the new millennium. Arun has served as Managing Director at FX Concepts Inc (2001-2008), Managing Director/Head of Currency Research, at J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management (1999-2001) and prior to that, he was Head of Research and member of the Investment Management Committee at The World Bank (1992-1999). He is serving as an Expert Advisor to the World Economic Forum’s Retirement Investment Systems Improvement Project, and the Strategic Retirement Advisory Council for the Investments & Wealth Institute (formerly IMCA) for their Retirement Management Advisor (RMA) designation. He is also adjunct professor of Finance at George Washington University and Academic Scholar at Georgetown University’s Center for Retirement Initiatives. Arun has also written a number of articles on investment finance and risk adjusted performance measurement and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences globally. He has taught courses/delivered seminars at the MIT Sloan School of Management (for Prof. Modigliani), University of Tokyo (Center for Advanced Research in Finance), George Washington University (Masters of Science in Finance), Hitotsubashi University's Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy, Nomura School of Advanced Management and EDHEC. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Journal of Performance Measurement and Journal for Investment Management Consulting, and has served on the Board of the Journal of Asset Management.  His idea for a retirement and education bond was launched by Brazil in January and August 2023, respectively. He has written many award-winning articles for trade journals, and has written a series of Op-Eds with Prof. Robert C. Merton (Nobel Prize winner) on innovations to improve retirement security. Previously, Arun served as Managing Director at FX Concepts Inc, Managing Director/Head of Currency Research at J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management and Head of Research and a member of the Investment Management Committee at The World Bank. He was one of four members selected to serve on the Academic Advisory Board of PGGM, NL (2nd largest Dutch pension plan) and serves on the Virginia Retirement Systems’ DC Plan Advisory Committee. He served as an Expert Advisor to the World Economic Forum’s Retirement Investment Systems Improvement Project, and the Strategic Retirement Advisory Council for the Investments & Wealth Institute (formerly IMCA) for their Retirement Management Advisor (RMA) designation. His work on retirement innovations and saving Social Security have been featured on Marketplace. Arun Muralidhar holds a PhD in Managerial Economics from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and a B.S. from Wabash College.
