James Paiva leads the marketing organization at Conformis, Inc. which uses patient data to design and produce personalized joint replacements, for a custom form and fit.  In this position, his functional areas of responsibility include directly overseeing market expansion, product management, corporate communications, direct-to-consumer initiatives, and medical education.

Mr. Paiva brings more than 20 years of medical device experience, with 16 years spent at Johnson & Johnson. During his career at J & J, he held a variety of marketing, education, sales support and business development roles of increasing responsibility. Most recently, he was the Senior Director of Marketing for DePuy Synthes, where he managed the core portfolio and pipeline for their global Spine business. In that role, he was responsible for business planning, marketing strategies, portfolio management, market research, new product launches, business performance analytics and multi-channel marketing in a $10+B market. Over his tenure at J&J, Mr. Paiva and his teams were responsible for multiple successful product and program launches, including driving a new minimally invasive portfolio to market leader position. He has a strong history of successfully implementing creative new business models and strategies for penetrating untapped or new market opportunities. Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, Mr. Paiva was a co-founder of the RIH Orthopaedic Foundation Test Facility. There, he spent 4 years as the project leader, and in conjunction with the Bioengineering Laboratory at Brown University performing due diligence evaluations, testing and consulting on a variety of medical devices. In this role, he was also able to co-author several manuscripts, abstracts, and test protocols, including some adopted by ASTM for regulatory guidance. Mr. Paiva earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology/Kinematics at the University of Rhode Island and studied in the Biomaterials and Artificial Organs graduate program at Brown University.
